Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede has urged the United States to respect the Danish autonomous territory's democracy ahead of a visit by U.S. Second Lady Usha Vance and National Security Adviser (NSA) Mike Waltz. Egede emphasized that Greenland’s sovereignty must remain intact and warned against foreign interference.

The White House announced Vance's visit from Thursday to Saturday, accompanied by her son and a U.S. delegation, including NSA Waltz. This comes as U.S. President Donald Trump, since returning to power in January, has repeatedly expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, even refusing to rule out the use of force.
Egede stated that Washington was informed there would be “no talks” until Greenland’s new government is in place following the March 11 election. Jens-Frederik Nielsen, likely to become the next prime minister, has also criticized Trump’s approach. While most Greenlanders favor independence from Denmark, they strongly oppose U.S. annexation.
