The devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar has claimed over 1,000 lives, according to AFP, citing the ruling Junta. Neighboring countries, including Thailand, China, and Vietnam, also felt the powerful tremors. In Thailand, at least six people died, and over 100 remain missing after a construction site collapse.

Chinese President Xi Jinping extended condolences, while Myanmar’s military leader, Min Aung Hlaing, appealed for international aid as rescue efforts intensify. India has already sent 15 tonnes of relief material, including food, medical supplies, and shelter essentials, to Yangon.
A construction worker in Bangkok described the horror of watching a 30-story government building collapse within seconds. “I had just seen my brother enter his shift. Moments later, the entire building turned to rubble,” he recalled. In Myanmar, survivors reported hearing desperate screams from people trapped under debris. As authorities continue relief efforts, the death toll is expected to rise.
