The White House has voiced strong objections to the steep tariffs imposed by several countries on American exports, calling for fairer trade practices. On Tuesday, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized Canada, India, and Japan for their restrictive tariff policies, which she claimed have disadvantaged American businesses and workers for years.

Leavitt emphasized President Donald Trump’s commitment to trade fairness, specifically pointing out that Canada imposes nearly 300% tariffs on American cheese and butter, while India enforces a 150% tariff on alcohol and 100% on agricultural imports. She presented a chart highlighting these barriers and stressed the need for reciprocal agreements.
Trump recently stated that India has agreed to lower tariffs, though Indian Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal clarified that negotiations are still ongoing, with no final decision reached. The president continues to push for balanced trade deals to ensure a level playing field for American industries.
