Social media has transformed the way we communicate, but its impact on mental health is a growing concern. Excessive use can lead to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, as people often compare their lives to curated, unrealistic portrayals online. The constant stream of notifications and the pressure to maintain an ideal image can create stress and feelings of inadequacy.

Cyberbullying is another major issue, with negative comments and online harassment affecting self-worth. Doomscrolling—endlessly consuming negative news—can heighten stress and lead to emotional exhaustion. Additionally, social media can disrupt sleep patterns, as screen exposure before bedtime interferes with melatonin production.
However, when used mindfully, social media can have positive effects, such as fostering support networks and raising awareness about mental health issues. Setting boundaries, limiting screen time, and curating a positive feed can help maintain a healthier relationship with social media while protecting mental well-being.
