At least 32 people have lost their lives as a series of violent tornadoes tore through the United States since Friday, according to the Associated Press. The powerful storm system has devastated multiple states, including Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma.

Missouri has been hit the hardest, recording at least 12 fatalities. Meanwhile, Kansas saw eight deaths on Friday after a massive highway collision involving over 50 vehicles.

Describing the aftermath, Butler County coroner Jim Akers said, “It was unrecognizable as a home. Just a debris field. The floor was upside down. We were walking on walls.”

In response, Arkansas and Georgia have declared a state of emergency, with Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee releasing $250,000 in disaster recovery funds. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt reported that 689 square kilometers of land had burned, destroying 300 homes.

With extreme weather expected to intensify, over 100 million people across the U.S. remain at risk from tornadoes, dust storms, and wildfires.
