Love began her political career in 2003 as a city council member in Saratoga Springs, later becoming its mayor. She ran for Congress in 2012 but narrowly lost to Democrat Jim Matheson. In 2014, she won the seat, defeating Doug Owens.

During her 2018 reelection bid, Love distanced herself from then-President Trump on trade and immigration but lost to Democrat Ben McAdams by fewer than 700 votes. Trump criticized her loss, saying, “Mia Love gave me no love, and she lost.” After Congress, she became a CNN commentator and a University of Sydney fellow. Love later acknowledged Trump’s policies as beneficial despite his rhetoric.
