Israel’s military confirmed the elimination of Osama Tabash, Hamas's military intelligence chief in southern Gaza, during an airstrike on March 20, 2025. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that Tabash also led Hamas’ surveillance and targeting unit, playing a key role in the group’s combat strategy.

A veteran Hamas member, Tabash previously served as a battalion commander in the Khan Younis Brigade and was involved in numerous attacks, including a 2005 suicide bombing that killed Shin Bet coordinator Oded Sharon. The IDF noted that he had been working to restore Hamas’s military capabilities after wartime losses.
Tabash was reportedly instrumental in planning the October 7 attack and gathering intelligence on IDF operations. His death is seen as a significant blow to Hamas’s intelligence efforts in Gaza, disrupting their ability to coordinate attacks on Israeli forces, according to the Times of Israel.
