Kevin Patel, 28, was fatally shot Wednesday night in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, near West Lill Avenue around 9:20 p.m., according to police. Officers found him with a gunshot wound to the chest, lying on the sidewalk. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed his identity.

Neighbor Garrett Moores rushed to Patel’s side, using towels and performing chest compressions with another bystander under 911 guidance. “You almost build a personal connection in those moments,” Moores told ABC 7 Chicago. “It was devastating.”
The shooting occurred just steps from 43rd Ward Alderman Timmy Knudsen’s office. In a statement, he emphasized the need for stronger action on crime, especially with summer nearing, and has requested increased patrols and city support.
Witnesses saw a man and woman fleeing the scene. No arrests have been made as Area Three detectives continue to investigate.
