Patients are experiencing high fever, extreme fatigue, and a severe cough—sometimes accompanied by blood. Despite growing fears, Russian public health officials have not disclosed case numbers or fatalities, adding to public anxiety.

A patient shared with the SHOT Telegram channel that he coughed up blood for five days but tested negative for COVID-19. Doctors diagnosed his condition as an "unspecified acute respiratory infection." Some experts suspect mycoplasma pneumonia, a bacterial infection that surged in Russia last year, but no official confirmation has been given.

Certain groups, including those with weak immune systems, are at higher risk. While authorities are not considering a lockdown, the illness's origins remain unknown, fueling growing concern.
