PM Modi Welcomes Sunita Williams and Crew-9 After Historic Space Mission
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated NASA astronauts Sunita Williams, Barry Wilmore, and Crew-9 members after their SpaceX Dragon capsule safely returned to Earth, splashing down off Florida’s coast.

Originally scheduled for an eight-day mission, their stay at the International Space Station extended to 286 days due to a glitch in their Boeing spacecraft. Modi praised their resilience, calling their journey “a test of grit, courage, and the boundless human spirit.” He specifically lauded Williams for “pushing the limits of human potential” and invited her to visit India, referring to her as “one of India’s illustrious daughters.”
Born in Ohio to a Gujarati father and Slovenian mother, Williams, 59, is a former US Navy captain and a seasoned astronaut. Her perseverance and determination in space continue to inspire millions worldwide, showcasing the strength of human ambition and technological advancement.
