Russian President Vladimir Putin made an unannounced visit to the city of Kurchatov in Kursk on Tuesday, marking his first trip to the region since Moscow claimed full control after repelling a rare Ukrainian incursion. During the visit, Putin toured the under-construction Kursk Nuclear Power Plant-2 and met with local volunteers wearing symbols of Russia's invasion, including “Z” and “V”.

Putin praised their efforts, calling it potentially “the most meaningful” work of their lives. His trip follows Russia’s recent operation, supported by North Korean troops, to reclaim Kursk—a region briefly held by Ukrainian forces since August 2024. Ukraine, however, insists it still holds ground near the border and reported repelling 13 Russian assaults.
Putin's visit appeared aimed at reinforcing domestic morale amid rising Western calls for a ceasefire. Meanwhile, drone warfare escalated, killing civilians on both sides. Talks between Putin and US President Trump have yet to yield progress toward peace.
