Once a common sight in our surroundings, sparrows have witnessed a drastic population decline over the past two decades. These tiny birds play a crucial role in pest control by feeding on insects, making their dwindling numbers a cause for concern.
To highlight the urgency of sparrow conservation, World Sparrow Day is observed annually on March 20. Established in 2010 by India’s Nature Forever Society and France’s Eco-Sys Action Foundation, the initiative aims to raise awareness and encourage efforts to protect the species.

Reports, including those from WWF India, indicate a sharp decline in sparrow populations across cities. Conservationists continue to study the causes and implement measures to prevent their extinction.
To further spread awareness, the Nature Forever Society launched a dedicated website featuring valuable information and images of various sparrow species worldwide. Protecting sparrows is essential to maintaining ecological balance, and World Sparrow Day serves as a reminder of this critical mission.
