Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been making repeated visits to the White House and Mar-a-Lago, urging President Donald Trump to settle a major antitrust case before its April 14 trial, US media reports. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed the lawsuit in 2020, accusing Meta of illegally acquiring Instagram and WhatsApp to suppress competition.

The case, set for trial in a Washington federal court, could force Meta to divest from these platforms. Zuckerberg, alongside former executive Sheryl Sandberg, is expected to testify. Meanwhile, he has intensified lobbying efforts, including purchasing a $23 million residence in Washington, D.C.
Trump has yet to decide on a settlement, an unusual move at this stage. However, FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson affirmed the agency’s readiness for trial, emphasizing its significance. While appeals could prolong the case, its outcome will shape the future of Meta and US technology regulations.
